The Association's Annual General Meeting was held on Wednesday 14th April at HIBA headquarters. Following an honest and indepth discussion of the strategic development of the Association elections were held for the Executive Committee for 2010

ANNUAL ST PATRICKS DAY BUSINESS LUNCH
The Hellenic Irish Business Association (HIBA), in cooperation with the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises –SEV, are pleased to announce that they are co-hosting the Annual St Patrick’s Day Business Lunch on Friday 19th March 2010 in the Grande Bretagne Hotel.
The purpose of this event is to stimulate the promotion of greater economic activity between Ireland and Greece. It will also be an opportunity to explore and discuss areas of common interest amongst policy makers and members of the business community. Following the severe after effects of the global economic downturn this event comes at a time when both countries are focusing efforts to correct their public finances, increase competitiveness and return their economies to growth.
This year’s guest speaker is Dr Garrett Fitzgerald, former Taoiseach (Prime Minister) and Foreign Minister of Ireland. Dr Fitzgerald was Prime Minister from 1981-1987 when Ireland experienced difficult economic times. Dr. Fitzgerald is an acknowledged expert and active commentator on international economic matters and European affairs. Many of the policies of his government laid the foundations for Ireland’s extraordinary economic growth during the 1990’s and in the early years of this century when the country’s economic performance earned it the name “The Celtic Tiger”. Dr Fitzgerald also worked closely with British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on addressing the difficulties in Northern Ireland
At the business lunch Dr. Fitzgerald will speak on developments in the Irish economy over recent decades and will outline the measures taken by the Irish government in response to the sudden and rapid deterioration of the economy over the past 18 months. He will draw comparisons between the current Greek and Irish economic experiences.
In view of the many common features of the economic difficulties facing Ireland and Greece, Dr Fitzgerald’s presentation should be of particular interest to Greek economic policy makers and members of the Greek business community.

Annual Pitta Cutting
HIBA in association with the Embassy of Ireland organised its Annual Pitta Cutting at the Embassy. There was a good turnout from both members and friends of HIBA and the evening was a good opportunity to discuss how Ireland and Greece are facing the challenges of the fiscal crisis. The lucky flouri was won my new member Mr Tom Leavy of Capital Energy Strategies who was in Athens on business from Dublin. In his speech, HIBA President Mr Ian Gourley announced that HIBA was delighted to have Dr Garret FitzGerald, former Taoiseach of Ireland as Guest Speaker at the Annual St Patrick's Day Lunch to be held on Friday 19th March. Once again the Committee express their sincere thanks to Executive Catering, Megapanos wines and Interexpo for their all their support.
